I think most of the people here are going by Madeline, by Ludwig Bemelmans. You know,
"In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines,
lived 12 little girls in 2 straight lines.
They left the house at half past nine,
In rain or shine.
The smallest one was Madeline."
I know, for me, that IS Madeline, and I imagine the same is true for the members who also grew up with the books/cartoon show.
When I see people spell it differently, I assume THEY spelled it wrong, lol, when really, people just spell it differently. But I know how frustrating that can be, I get people spelling my name "Kami," "Cammi," "Cammy," etc. a lot.

And the song Madeline, but mostly the character.
And anyway, it is pronounced differently, or so I have been told on baby name messageboards.
Madeline = Mad uh line
Madelyn = Mad uh lynne
Madeleine = Mad uh leen (like the ending of caffeine)
I used to think of them as the same, but different spellings until it was pointed out to me that they would be pronounced differently. Now I see them as three different names.
Madeleine is a pretty name, by the way!
